Details to have ready
- Swedish registration number
- VIN
- Current registration certificate
Check the registration and credit information
Transportstyrelsen’s change-of-ownership guidance points buyers to its registration-number search, including information on a vehicle purchased on credit. Ask the seller to resolve any credit or leasing questions with the relevant party before transfer.
Compare the registration documents
The Swedish registration certificate is issued when an owner is registered or relevant vehicle details change. Compare the latest document with the authority’s record and the physical VIN. An old certificate or screenshot should not be your only evidence.
Build an inspection and service chronology
Request the inspection reports and dated maintenance invoices, including records from before import if applicable. Compare registration dates, mileage and reported work across them. A registration-data search is not a comprehensive record of damage and repairs.
Limits to keep in mind
- Credit information in a vehicle search is not a universal debt-clearance guarantee.
- Detailed access and available fields depend on the official service selected.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
