Details to have ready
- VIN / número de bastidor
- Spanish registration number / matrícula
- Permiso de circulación and ITV card
Use the DGT vehicle report
DGT offers several report types. The reduced report identifies whether an issue may affect transfer or circulation; the complete report provides more detail. Choose the report for your question rather than treating a basic result as a full history.
Read the ITV and mileage chronology
The complete report can include inspection dates, defects and mileage communicated to DGT. Compare those entries with the ITV card and dated workshop invoices. Missing readings do not establish that the displayed mileage is correct.
Resolve restrictions before paying
Review any administrative incidents or charges in the relevant DGT report with the seller. Match the matrícula and chassis number on the documents to the vehicle. For an import, investigate its earlier country of registration separately.
Limits to keep in mind
- Report types, access requirements and fees differ.
- Spanish registration records do not guarantee a complete foreign or accident history.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
