Details to have ready
- VIN / seria de șasiu
- Romanian registration documents
- CIV and ITP evidence
Obtain Auto-Pass from RAR
Use the official Registrul Auto Român entry point for RAR Auto-Pass rather than a reseller implying government affiliation. Read the actual certificate and match its VIN to the car and CIV. Check current conditions and fees on RAR’s website.
Compare the mileage chronology
Compare recorded odometer entries with ITP documents, invoices and the dashboard. A timeline can expose inconsistencies but cannot establish mileage for periods with no reported observations. Ask the seller to explain gaps with dated supporting documents.
Investigate the years before Romania
A Romanian record may begin after the car entered the country. The RAR launch guidance distinguished local data from planned foreign-mileage expansion; do not assume a complete pre-import trail. Check the certificate’s actual coverage and request original foreign records.
Limits to keep in mind
- Auto-Pass is not a complete guarantee of accident history, mileage or current condition.
- Foreign coverage must be assessed from the returned document, not assumed from the existence of the service.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
