Details to have ready
- NIV / VIN
- Mexican registration plates
- REPUVE registration certificate number, if available
Begin at the official REPUVE service
The federal government describes a free citizen lookup using the NIV, plates or registration certificate reference. Review the reported vehicle identity and theft or legal status. Reach it through the government page to avoid unofficial lookalike services.
Match the result to the actual vehicle
Compare the make, model and identifying number returned by REPUVE with the stamped NIV, registration documents and seller paperwork. A lookup for a different or mistyped identifier cannot validate the vehicle being offered.
Check imports beyond the Mexican record
For a car brought from the United States, ask for the earlier title and import documents and investigate its US title history separately. A Mexican status result should not be read as an account of every accident, repair or earlier title brand.
Limits to keep in mind
- REPUVE status is not a complete mechanical or maintenance history.
- Registration and import questions require the relevant authority; a clean lookup is not a transaction guarantee.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
