Details to have ready
- Italian registration plate / targa
- VIN / numero di telaio
- Vehicle registration document and inspection paperwork
Check recorded revisioni
Il Portale dell’Automobilista provides a service for checking completed vehicle inspections. Its guidance states that displayed inspections are those after 1 June 2018. Select the relevant vehicle type and follow the official form’s requirements.
Compare the inspection chronology
Use the dates and readings actually returned by the service alongside workshop invoices and the dashboard. Earlier inspections or foreign use may fall outside the displayed scope. An inspection-history result should not be presented as a complete accident history.
Verify the vehicle and earlier documents
Match the physical VIN to the registration paperwork and ask the seller for records covering the period before Italian registration. If administrative or ownership questions remain, resolve them with the relevant Italian authority before payment; a decoder cannot settle them.
Limits to keep in mind
- The official inspection-history page states a post-1-June-2018 display scope.
- Inspection history does not replace ownership, encumbrance or mechanical checks.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
