Details to have ready
- VIN
- French registration number
- Carte grise information supplied by the seller
Ask the seller to generate HistoVec
HistoVec is designed for the seller to create and share a vehicle report with a prospective buyer. Request the original report link rather than only a screenshot. The buyer is not promised unrestricted access using a VIN alone.
Review the administrative situation
HistoVec also provides the route to the certificat de situation administrative. Read the report with the seller and resolve any administrative issue affecting transfer. Make sure the registration and VIN correspond to the vehicle you inspect.
Add the inspection and import trail
Ask for the contrôle technique report and repair invoices to understand the vehicle’s condition and dated mileage. If it was imported, obtain its previous registration records as well. A French administrative report does not document every unreported repair.
Limits to keep in mind
- Access depends on the seller’s participation and the required registration information.
- HistoVec is not a substitute for an inspection or a complete international accident report.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
