Ask the seller for the Car-Pass
Car-Pass explains that sellers of used cars and light vans generally provide the document to private buyers, including foreign private buyers; sales to professionals are treated differently. Ask for the actual current document and review its odometer timeline.
Check the document’s authenticity
Use the QR code or document identification number through the official Car-Pass route and compare the online information with the paper. Do not accept a cropped image as your only evidence. Investigate mismatched vehicle details or inconsistent mileage.
Read beyond the mileage list
Car-Pass may show additional information such as outstanding recalls and a required post-accident inspection where reported. Read the vehicle’s actual document and the used-vehicle inspection report. For imports, ask for earlier foreign records instead of assuming the Belgian timeline covers them.
Limits to keep in mind
- Requirements have exceptions; confirm the current conditions with Car-Pass for the transaction.
- Car-Pass records do not establish that every accident or repair was reported.
Commercial reports and an independent inspection
Compare a provider’s coverage with the periods and countries missing from your documents. A commercial report may add evidence, but it does not replace an official check where one is needed or an inspection of the actual vehicle. Read provider reviews before choosing.
